Love GenX Style Contest entry #16

Remember the story with the most votes wins the "date with your spouse" gift certificate! If you haven't yet submitted a story...what are you waiting for? :)

Today's entry is from Andie H:

I had just finished my first year of teaching and needed to find a summer job. I broke up with a long term boyfriend that April and was secreatly hoping to find a place to work where I would meet someone! I mean I was approaching 23!! Anyway I applied to Arrowhead Day Camp for a swim instructor positon. During my interview Ellen asked if I wouldn't mind working at the lower pool. I said sure why not-well she said you would be teaching all boys to swim ages 4-12 and it is all male swim instructors down at the lower pool. Okay I said, thinking it might kind of fun!

Well I showed up the first day of camp and the director came down to the lower pool in a haste trying to convince one of the male swim instructors to switch jobs and become a bunk counselor because one of her counselors didn't show up. It was weird; camp started on a Thursday and the strange thing was it wasn't even this particular counselor's first year. It was actually his third year so he knew when camp began. Anyway, Ellen called the counselor and said we would love to still have you at camp but we gave your bunk away but that she has the lower pool or pioneering open to work. Well the counselor picked the lower pool and the next day Ellen brought him down and introduced him to all of us-Mike Helms.

Well I can't say it was love at first site but I was definately interested. Well we finally ended up hanging out a bunch over the summer and eventually started dating before camp was even over. Two years later we got engaged, a year later married, a year later a little boy and last summer we had a little girl. I know we work fast! But I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and this just proves that I was meant to work at that camp and that Mike was to miss the first day of camp for if he was a bunk counselor we most likely wouldn't of hung out after those long camp days!
